Punk Rock Climbing/Camping Trip
10.09.2007

We will be taking a car camping trip to a place called "Punk Rock" (No Dawn did not name it but wants to meet whoever did!) We are leaving at 10am from the PM office on Saturday 10/27 and returning on Sunday afternoon. Punk Rock is off of the peak to peak highway and is an awesome place for multi-sport action! In an effort to provide a little something for everyone we have put together a pretty cool schedule: Team Ben (Ben W and Ben C) will set up an area for some intro to moderate top rope rock climbing. If you need to borrow shoes or a harness please let us know before the trip. Scott and Ben will be available to lead a few harder routes on a nearby tower for experienced climbers. Emily will lead a moderate hike to the iron clad cliffs. On Sunday mid-morning anyone who is interested in making the world a better place is invited to join us in a clean up of the area. Since it is a great place to car camp close to Boulder the area sees a good deal of use and unfortunately not everyone practices low impact camping! Nothing to intense, we will just walk around and pick stuff up. There will be prizes for the most interesting piece of trash recovered as well as the most. We will provide the bags. While it is not yet to be confirmed, Christen and Connor are probably going to be hacky-sacking 20 hours out of each day so folks will be welcome to join them! We will be camping at approximately 10,000 feet and this time of year that can be a pretty cold place to be so proper gear is crucial. The good news is that if the weather cooperates we will be able to build a fire there. We do have extra gear that is loaned out on a first come first serve basis so if you need anything please let us know ASAP. PM will have water for drinking and cooking but you are on your own for food and snacks. We have camp stoves and can bring as many as are requested. We will have a mandatory pre-trip meeting on 10/24 at 8pm here at the office. This meeting will be a great opportunity to swap gear with other members prior to the trip and to find cooking/tenting partners. Everyone needs to bring their sleeping bag to the meeting for us to take a look at. A few guidelines to think about for your bag: Nothing rated lower than 20 degrees will be much fun for you. If your bag is a 20 degree that is more than 5 years old you will want to think about using something else unless you have been very careful in storing the bag. If you have any doubts about your bag drop by the office with it and we will give you a second opinion. Remember that a warm bag will mean the difference between a cold night or a good rest and often times it is those kind of things that make or break a trip. It will be cold at night so bags and jackets etc are important.
